Known for its warm climate and history, San Antonio, Texas is an ideal family vacation spot any time of year. Having visited San Antonio many times, I can say that the city has much to offer and is full of history.

The Alamo is a must see spot in San Antonio, indeed a must see spot in the entire southwest. You and your family can trace the same paths as the Mexicans and the Confederates who fought in the early 19th century. As you walk through you will uncover a lot of history.

The Alamo is quite large and you can walk through and uncover the history that lies within the Alamo. The dimmed set room inside displays flags and the names of the soldiers who fought to break away from Mexico in order to claim Texas an independent republic.

Once you have taken a tour through the Alamo there are gift shops where you can buy souvenirs such as mugs, sweaters, and key chains inside; In addition, there are a few of the actual weapons on display that the soldiers used during the Battle of the Alamo.
After you visit the Alamo, you can cross the street and dress up in old western clothes to take a western style portrait with your family so you can remember your trip. Once you and your family have seen the Alamo, you can venture off and take a short stroll down to the River Walk.
All along this large river are many restaurants, hotels, and shops. You can buy a real Texas hat and you can enjoy some margaritas along the side of the river as you watch the boats go by. The River walk is enhanced by the beautiful surrounding architecture and the large trees that run along the sides of the river.

If you want to experience even more of the River walk you can take a boat tour for only $8.25 per person and $2 for any child under the age of 5. You and your family can enjoy this self-guided tour that will take you all along the River walk while your tour guide points out famous historical sites and information that will be sure to grab your attention.
