A great way to see The City by the Bay and get some exercise while staying in San Francisco vacation rentals this March is to participate in the annual Emerald Across the Bay 12K race.

Not only does this race provide runners with a chance to stay healthy during their vacation, it also allows them to take part in an event that has been going since 1984. Over the years, the race has faced its fair share of challenges, from a closed entrance to the Golden Gate Bridge walkway to a major rainstorm.

Despite whatever hardships participants have faced over the years, they continue to register for the race to help support the Edgewood Center for Children & Families. In fact, around 5,000 runners take part in the event each year, and thousands more come out to watch the action.

Runners start the race in East Fort Baker, cross the expansive Golden Gate Bridge and pass the finish line at Aquatic Park.

Of course, individuals staying at vacation rentals in the area do not have to lace up their running shoes if they would prefer to take it easy. Those who are not racing through the streets of San Francisco can enjoy the awards ceremony that will follow the event, as well as live music and food.
