During daylight hours, vacationers who book condo rentals in San Francisco can stroll across the Golden Gate Bridge to soak in one of the most scenic views in the world, according to Travel and Leisure.
The 3.4-mile round trip experience has attracted tourists since its very first Pedestrian Day on May 27, 1937. One of the most elaborate and beautiful spans around the world, the Golden Gate Bridge was given its name clearly not after its color but because of the Golden Gate Strait, which is the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The bridge took four years to construct and resulted in the deaths of 11 workers, who are forever remembered on a memorial plaque at the southern entrance to the west sidewalk of the bridge.
The bridge has grown as a tourist attraction and even boasts a gift shopping center, the “Round House,” on the southeast side of the bridge. Originally, the structure was a restaurant for passing travelers, but it now holds tourist information, photos, books, posters and other souvenirs of the Golden Gate Bridge.
If visitors do get hungry after their jaunt across the Golden Gate, they can visit the Bridge Cafe on the southeast side and re-energize with assorted snacks, beverages and Starbucks drinks before returning to their vacation rentals.
