Physically fit and active individuals can plan their next vacation rental destination around the California Ironman 70.3 Triathlon, set to take place in March 2012.
Contestants in the rigorous event will start the course with a 1.2-mile swim in the peaceful waters of the Oceanside Harbor before spinning their wheels around the 56-mile bike course, viewing the beauty of San Clemente State Park and enduring the tough hills of Camp Pendleton. The dedicated athletes will finish up with a 13.1-mile run through Oceanside’s coastal neighborhoods.
Individuals who choose not to join the Ironman challenge can watch and cheer on the participants by standing along the route of the race, whether they hope to catch their family members or friends sailing through the waves, speeding on bike or racing to the finish line on foot. Activities and race information will be given a couple days before the race, including athlete check-in time. Following the race, an awards ceremony will occur for the winning athletes.
In 2010, Michael Raelert of Rostock, Germany, took first place with a time of three hours, 58 minutes and 27 seconds. Try your hand at beating his time or watch athletes give their greatest attempt on March 31 at Ironman 70.3 during your spring stay at one of Oceanside’s timeshare rentals.
