As Hawaii is so unique, visitors to this island chain may have an interest in learning as much as they possibly can about The Aloha State. Fortunately, travelers can quench their thirst for state history by visiting any of the islands’ fascinating landmarks.

While each of the Hawaiian Islands has its fair share of historic destinations, Oahu has some of the best known. This is due in part to the fact that Oahu is not only the most populous of the islands, but also the location of the state capital, Honolulu.

For the U.S., the Island of Oahu is also significant as the location of the Battle of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. It is here that more than 2,000 Americans lost their lives bravely fighting against the Imperial Japanese Navy. Visitors can pay their respects to the fallen and learn more about the historic event that brought the U.S. into World War II at the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu.

At this famous site, visitors can board a boat that takes them to the bridge-like memorial that floats over the sunken USS Arizona. Inside this structure, individuals can view the battleship that now sits on Pearl Harbor’s floor.

After visiting the somber, yet significant USS Arizona Memorial, travelers may have a little more fun at the Dole Plantation, which is located in Oahu’s Wahiawa District. Here, travelers not only have a chance to learn about the history of Hawaii’s pineapple industry, but one of the nation’s biggest food companies as well.

If the kids are in tow, they may not be too excited about a trip to a pineapple plantation, but that opinion is sure to change when they hop aboard this attraction’s famous Pineapple Express. On this 20-minute ride around the plantation, passengers receive a quick overview of Oahu’s agricultural history and take in some great sights at the same time.

Travelers who wish to learn more about the state’s royal past can take a tour of ‘Iolani Palace in Honolulu. This National Historic Landmark served as the home to King Kalākaua and his sister Queen Lili‘uokalani.

Of course, these are just three historic Hawaiian attractions travelers can visit. Although small in size, Hawaii has a lot to offer in terms of educational experiences.

Coronado, California, is known far and wide for its tranquil beaches and picturesque views of San Diego Bay. There is no better way for visitors to this resort town to appreciate these and many other sights than to take part in the variety of outdoor activities available to them.Whether visitors want to hit the links or build a sand castle, this popular West Coast destination has them covered.

For instance, travelers can enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities at North Beach, whether they have come to Coronado alone or with their family. Even their canine companions will enjoy this sandy attraction, as dogs are allowed on the beach off-leash. Those who brought their surfboard on vacation with them can rise bright and early to hit the waves before the beach gets too crowded. In the evening, this spot becomes a great site for a bonfire.

Then, there is Silver Strand State Beach, which is a great place for the kids to build their seashell collections. Older individuals are also welcome to camp overnight on the beach.

When the kids are not looking for seashells under Coronado’s white sand, they can run amuck in the playground at Spreckels Park. At this 8-acre site, visitors will find picnic tables and other park amenities. Spreckels is also the location of several summertime concerts and events.

If travelers want to use their time in Coronado to work on their golf swing, then they can make their way to one of the resort’s beautifully designed courses.

Vacationers who hit the links at the Coronado Golf Course, for example, will be able to play a few rounds on a 6,590-yard course, while taking in amazing views of San Diego Bay and the lengthy Coronado Bridge. After golfers finish at the 18th hole, they can move on to Grumpy Dan’s Grill and fuel up with a hot dog.

If tennis has always been a traveler’s favorite game, they will want to bring their racket to the Coronado Tennis Center, where they will find eight public courts. If they forgot to pack a racket or tennis balls, then they can always rent whatever they need right at the center.

Thanks to Oceanside’s location on the California coast, the popular travel destination is perfect for those who want to spend a few days relaxing on the beach, rather than worrying about their problems at the office.

While staying at timeshare rentals in Oceanside, travelers who are looking for a beach that the entire family can enjoy need look no further than Harbor Beach. This attraction features several amenities, but what makes it great for the kids is the fact that it is so spacious. In fact, Harbor has the honor of being one of the widest beaches in all of San Diego County.

The wide nature of the beach also makes it ideal for parents of small children. The little ones can run around in the sand all they want and still be a safe distance from the crashing waves.

While Harbor Beach’s rolling waves make it an ideal destination for surfers staying in area vacation rentals, these sandy shores are perfect for other forms of recreation as well, including jogging and volleyball games. If the kids are still not old enough to enjoy volleyball, then they are sure to have a ball on the beach’s children’s playground.

Vacations provide travelers with an opportunity to break away from their regular routine and spend time exploring areas they are unfamiliar with, like scenic Del Mar, California. For a new experience, visitors to this seaside community should sample cuisine they may never have tried before at one of Del Mar’s fine eateries.

For instance, if the only fruit travelers ever dine on comes straight from a can, then they may want to swing by the Del Mar Farmers Market while staying in local timeshare rentals. Every Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., those looking for fresh eats will find produce, fish, handcrafted cheeses and more for sale.

If travelers have never been the biggest seafood fan, then they may want to give it another go in a restaurant close to the ocean. One option is Pacifica Del Mar, where the chefs have a passion for seafood. Here, diners can start with crispy calamari before finishing off a plate of pan-roasted sea bass or sugar-spiced salmon.

When individuals are staying in timeshare rentals in Del Mar, there is a good chance they will find something they may never have tried before, but will surely want to taste again.

Whether guests at vacation rentals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, are children or just young at heart, they are sure to enjoy a ride on one of the coastal city’s biggest attractions – the SkyWheel.

On a visit to the massive SkyWheel, travelers have a chance to ride the tallest Ferris wheel east of the Mississippi River. The structure rises 200-feet above sea level, which means its passengers get to take in amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Unlike traditional Ferris wheels, the SkyWheel features 42 fully enclosed gondolas that are not only climate controlled, but help create a unique light show every night. The attraction is still relatively new to this popular tourist spot, having just opened in May 2011. As a result, travelers who stayed at Myrtle Beach vacation rentals before then will want to consider a return.

The SkyWheel is located at Myrtle Beach’s Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade, which means there is plenty to do after travelers step out of their gondola. For instance, they can grab a bite to eat at the Landshark Bar & Grill, or do a little shopping at the Coastal Grand Mall.

This National Historic Landmark was founded in 1798 and gained the nickname, “King of the Missions,” as it is the largest of 21 missions in California. Today, a community of Franciscan Friars resides at San Luis Rey, but travelers are more than welcome to stop by and learn about this Oceanside attraction’s long history.

On a visit to the mission’s museum, individuals can learn about the Luiseno people who inhabited the Oceanside area prior to the Spanish taking control of the region. In addition, they will also see how the San Luis Rey area changed throughout its different periods of occupation as they view Native American artifacts and other fascinating pieces.

Guests with Oceanside condo rentals who visit the mission will also find the oldest cemetery in North County San Diego, which is still in use. Travelers may be interested to learn that these burial grounds were also featured in episodes of Walt Disney’s Zorro television series from the 1950s.

As San Diego, California, is located so close to the Mexican border, the city has a sizable Latino population. This March, travelers who are staying at condo rentals in America’s Finest City have a chance to learn a little about Hispanic culture at the San Diego Latino Film Festival. Now entering its 19th year, the festival will run from March 8-18 at the UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas Hazard Center. During this event, movie lovers can catch an assortment of documentaries, feature-length and short films from the U.S. and abroad. As so many movies are submitted to the festival on a yearly basis, they are divided into sub-categories devoted to specific themes. This means visitors to San Diego can check out a few flicks from the Para La Familia, Cine Gay, Documania or Jewish Latino Films categories, depending on their personal preference. At the festival, attendees can also participate in seminars and workshops that feature film industry veterans. For instance, aspiring writers may want to book vacation rentals in San Diego so they do not miss their chance to have their work critiqued by film and television professionals during the Nickelodeon Script Review.

It is only fitting that a city named Oceanside is also home to the California Surf Museum. Whether or not travelers staying at timeshare rentals enjoy riding waves, they are sure to gain a new appreciation for the sport on a visit to this local attraction.

The institution was founded in 1986 after Stuart Resor, an architect and surfer, put out a call to anybody interested in starting a museum dedicated to the sport. Today, visitors can learn about the history of surf culture in California through a variety of temporary and permanent exhibits.

For instance, visitors who are unfamiliar with the history of surfing will get to learn about such legends as Duke Kahanamoku, George Freeth, Rell Sunn and Doc Ball.

The museum’s current exhibit is titled Transitional Thinking: A Short Story 1966-1972, and explores the ways in which surfing evolved along with the rest of the world during this period.

Past exhibits have focused on the rise of the female surfer and the role this aquatic activity has played in popular culture.

After a visit to the museum, travelers may just be inspired enough to hit the waves before leaving their timeshare rentals in Oceanside.

Travelers reserving vacation rentals on the West Coast this spring can consider lining up their trips with the Encinitas Street Fair in late April. Residents and tourists from all over the nation visit downtown Encinitas not only for the fair but for its offbeat and trendy stores, restaurants and sidewalk cafes.

The city possesses a wealth of history, and many of its landmark shops and restaurants are housed in the same buildings as when the district was first established in the early 20th century.

One of the most prominent downtown landmarks, The Paloma Theatre, dates back to the 1920s and still maintains its single-screen, old-fashioned style. On its opening night in February of 1928, the theater screened “The Cohens and Kellys in Paris,” a premiere event that was graced by then-Hollywood A-lister Mary Pickford.

The annual spring festival will take place this year from April 28-29, stretching along Coast Highway 101 in historic Encinitas. Approximately 450 vendor booths line the streets, featuring arts and crafts, antiques, clothing from around the world, food, live music and more.
